Examinations for Newborns at TLC Pediatrics

After your son or daughter is born, the first step to ensure that they lead a healthy life is to schedule a newborn exam at a pediatric office.

Our board-certified pediatricians, Dr. Laff, Dr. Ngo, and Dr. Krumholz focus on providing quality preventative care to your newborn. We provide care to your child through each of their vital developmental stages, from their newborn period to 21 years.

An exam for a newborn:

We suggest that your newborn be seen 2 to 3 days after they are discharged from the hospital. We follow them closely during the newborn period, monitoring for conditions that may arise in the newborn period. We are also there to answer any questions you may have about basic baby care.

If you or the doctor have any concerns about your newborn's weight, feeding, or jaundice, more visits may be required.

After the newborn period we recommend further well baby exams based on the Bright Futures Guidelines by the American Academy of Pediatric. These state a child should be seen at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, 30 months, 3 years and yearly after that.

During the newborn visits, your infant will be observed for possible health issues including:

  • Heart problems
  • Jaundice
  • Feeding and Nutrition problems
  • Growth and Development
  • Congenital disorders
  • Genetic disorders

Your child receives their Hepatitis B vaccine during this period.
